12 Things Ed Miliband Wants You To Forget

1. Miliband Insists He Would Demand Nick Clegg's Resignation In Any Potential Labour-Liberal Democrat Coalition... But He May Have To Go Back On That If There Is A Hung Parliament

Ever since he became Labour leader in 2010, Miliband has decided to put the boot into Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg. Liberal Democrat leader Clegg helped orchestrate the construction of the Coalition Government alongside the Conservatives that has been Britain's administration for the past five years. And Miliband has been unwilling to let Clegg forget that he gave away some of his key pre-election policy commitments - accusing him of "betrayal" and of "selling-out" his party's voters after the Lib Dems abandoned their commitment to scrap university tuition fees, instead raising them to a top limit of £9,000. Miliband even refused to share a podium with Clegg during the build-up to the 2011 Alternative Vote referendum, claiming the Lib Dem leader was "too toxic" and would harm the "Yes to AV" campaign. Furthermore, Miliband has insisted that any potential Labour-Liberal Democrat coalition to come out of the 2015 General Election would be predicated on Clegg's resignation first. Although the Labour leader is talking like the tough operator in public - effectively using Clegg as an electoral punching bag - if there is a hung parliament come May and the Lib Dems refuse to push Clegg and he won't jump, then what is Miliband going to do? Backing down on this extremely public commitment would be weak, but is Miliband really going to turn down power? He may have made a rod for his own back here...
