12 Things Ed Miliband Wants You To Forget

12. Miliband Claimed His Family's Weekly Shop Cost Just £70... Showing He Is Just As Out-Of-Touch With Society As David Cameron Is

Ed Miliband has a wife, Justine, and two sons - Daniel and Samuel - yet he still made the audacious claim in May 2014 that his family's average weekly shop cost between £70 to £80. For a man who is trying to position himself as the leader who understands what people are going through, and who wants to portray Prime Minister David Cameron as completely out of touch, this was a massive blunder. Very few families of four - let alone one that lives in a London house worth £2.5million - would be able to live on a weekly shop of less than £100 (the average), and the comment just made Miliband seem naive. The British public want someone who understands the economic hardships they are being forced to live through right now, and Miliband should easily be able to position himself as being far more in touch than Eton-schooled Cameron. However, the Labour leader has simply failed to do that to date.
