13 Tie-In Toys That Look Nothing Like They Were Supposed To

10. Mexican Batman Bootleg

Batman On the left Batman, on the right an unofficial bootleg from Mexico, crafted from a Star Trek Mego sculpt and actually released in this half-finished vision, without so much as a trace of the Batman logo, or in fact any of the right colours. His cape and mask are the only telling features of Batman €“ and the finish on them is far from what you might call professional.

9. Megan Fox - Transformers

Transformer toys have been the go-to action figures for boys since the mid-1980s when Hasbro acquired the North American distribution rights from Japanese company Takara Tomy. The toy brand soon soared to success and has since seen comic book and movie adaptations, with the Michael Bay blockbusters leading the pack. For the 2009 release, Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, Hasbro produced the Human Alliance toyline, featuring main protagonist Sam Witwicky, Tech Sergeant Epps, Agent Simmons and Mikaela Banes, and while Shia LaBeouf's mould passed the action figure test, Megan Fox's mould would certainly turn heads, but for all the wrong reasons. Packaged with autobots Skids and Arcee, Mikaela Banes was practical if not pretty and featured a hole in the back of her mould, allowing her to attach to Skids' vehicle mode. While her outfit is more or less accurate, her sex appeal has been extinguished - she looks a lot more like a mild-mannered Lois Lane type, rather than a sex-pot mechanic, and you have to suspect the mistakes might not be accidental, given what Fox notoriously said about becoming a toy:
"I told them that I would literally commit suicide if they made an action figure of me. I will kill myself."

With a love for postmodern literature and black and white movies, Colette is a stickler for those artistic films with a weird and wonderful vibe. But she also loves her mainstream cinema and will devour any superhero movie like a comic-book nerd. She currently works as a news editor for a gaming website, specialising in all things Mario, and a film aficionado for What Culture.
