14 Internet Memes We're Totally Obsessed With Using

8. "Doge"

The most recent meme to come into existence on this list, and one of the most controversial for all the wrong reasons, is the "Doge" meme. Who would have thought that a Shiba Inu-bred dog would become one of the fastest known memes out there today? A cheery dog with a lascivious-like look on its face, "Doge" quickly became a hit when someone decided to add text in the form of "Much something, such something, wow", among other words and paste them around the dog as if he's in awe. It's such an easy concept, and yet an even easier one when used by its peers. While containing no frame of reference, "Doge" manages to be one of the most popular memes in the social nexus. The "Doge" phrases have essentially took over the internet world, with people quoting the exact lines and adding their own instances into the meme; instances like "much careful, such steady, wow" and "such quiet, much awkwardness, wow" are just the tip of the iceberg when compared to what others have come up with over the course of the meme's short lifespan. The United States Department of Health and Human Services went as far to post their own meme version of "Doge" on their Facebook page. It's that widespread. On a side note, the controversial aspect of "Doge" has attracted some unruly attention and backlash. Some have written to the U.S Congress asking to "make the Doge meme illegal in all forms." Apparently "Doge" has been used so much that individuals proposed evasive action on its progression into our lives. According to a resident from Florida, "it's causing our society to crumble and risks our future children's lives!" Such hate, much despise, wow.
