15 Mind-Blowing Pictures Of Space

This picture of Jupiter and its moons wasn't taken by a great big space telescope controlled by a troupe of scientists, it was taken by an amateur astronomer from the surface of our own planet.

It shows the gas giant hanging in the vast emptiness of space with its moons Ganymede, Europa and Calisto on the left and Io on the right, you can even pick out Jupiter's huge coloured bands which are actually enormous planetary weather systems. The orange haze is the glow of our moon just out of shot.

Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, is dwarfed by the great expanse of nothingness that is outer space.
