15 Things Only Tyneside Cinema Fans Will Understand

The best cinema in the UK isn't a secret any more.

€œIn my view, the only way to see a film remains the way the filmmaker intended: inside a large movie theatre with great sound and pristine picture.€ It was legendary director Ridley Scott who said the above, and it was his great uncle (there€™s definitely an opportunity for at least one €œGreat Scott!€ here€) Dixon Scott, who founded the Tyneside Cinema back in 1937. The Tyneside Cinema is the sort of place you€™d imagine would only exist in the movies. You could picture a couple outside it, on a rainy night, shot in Noirish black-and-white. Showing a mix of independent, world, and Hollywood films, it is the perfect place whatever your cinematic taste. Originally opened as a news cinema, it is now the only newsreel cinema operating full-time in the UK, and screens archive newsreel footage daily. It also hosts a range of special events and free screenings. Just as stunning on the inside as it is the outside €“ the Classic screen is a particular delight €“ this offers the requisite great sound and pristine pictures, along with the sense that this is exactly how cinema should be. If you€™re a fan of the Tyneside, or your own local independent cinema, then you may just understand a few of these€

Sweet or salty? The age-old question moviegoers are faced with (and the answer should always be sweet, let's be honest), but now there's a new twist on the classic cinema snack - and a classic dessert - thanks to the clever folk in the Tyneside Bar Cafe. Yes, popcorn pannacotta is a thing that exists and yes, you should immediately run out immediately and sample it. The generic popcorn option offered elsewhere just won't suffice anymore.
