14. Actually Getting To Broaden Your Horizons
The Tyneside shows an extremely wide variety of films, with mainstream releases sitting on the bill alongside foreign language films and independent fare. This means that while, yes, you can still go to see the latest Hollywood blockbuster, there's also ample opportunity to see films you'd never normally consider. Present offering ranges from the re-release of Blade Runner to Disneys big-budget live action remake of Cinderella, and the critically-acclaimed documentary Cobain: Montage of Heck to last years Best Foreign Language Oscar Winner The Great Beauty (showing as part of a European film season). While you could see some of these films elsewhere, theres nowhere else in the North East showing such an eclectic mix, and a lot of the "bigger" cinemas avoid anything remotely indie like the plague.
