1. Myth - They Have Never Used TVs Or Cellphones
Obviously during their travels, especially during Rumspringa, the Amish witness commonplace technology that average folk take for granted, so their familiarity of things like phones, laptops and TVs is to be expected.
Naturally they don't own such devices and can't use them under their own rules... Well the Amish have a naughty little secret and that's many of them have hidden barns, trailers and sheds containing cellphones and computers and TVs. Yes despite their pious lifestyle and success in avoiding the techie trappings of today, they're not beyond falling from grace, however self-imposed, and some do indeed own the forbidden fruit.
Even Xboxes and Playstations and the porn-laden internet can be found in such private quarters. In all honesty though if all there was to do in life was play volleyball, plough fields and read the Bible surely most folks would fancy a cheeky game of Farming Simulator from time to time.
If the Amish folk are guilty of anything it's that they are merely human and so are susceptible to the same temptations put in front of every one... and if they slip from time to time, well really, who can blame them?
They're not so different from the rest of the world after all.
