16. Myspace Rejected The Opportunity To Buy Facebook For £50million ($75million) In 2004
In early-2004, Facebook approached Myspace and gave their online social-networking rivals the opportunity to buy them - for just £50million ($75million), equivalent to £64million ($93million) today. The reason for turning them down? Because it was apparently too expensive a business venture to part with that sort of cash. To put that into perspective, in February 2015 Facebook's market value was £145billion ($212billion) - more than 2,900 times the value Myspace would have needed to have paid for the social network 11 years previously.
