5. The Procession At Gandhi's Funeral Was More Than Five Miles Long

Gandhi was killed at the age of 78 in Delhi on January 30, 1948, having seen India achieve its independence. Understandably, Gandhi's death was mourned all around India - and more than 2million people lined the streets for the five-mile long procession at his funeral. It took the procession more than five hours to reach Raj Ghat from Birla house (where he had been assassinated) - and Gandhi was transported on a weapons carrier.
