This one makes a lot of you, of a certain age range, begin to feel old. Alanis Morissette's breakthrough album, Jagged Little Pill, was released in 1995. The album's first single, "You Oughta Know", came out in July of that year, and it helped her be everywhere. The album has sold more than 33 million copies worldwide, topping the charts in ten different countries, and would go on to become the biggest selling pop album of the 1990's. She's on this list because that incredibly meteoric rise to success was something that she couldn't possibly keep up. That's not to say she was a one-album wonder. Her next two albums would go multi-platinum, and every album she would release after JLP would be a top ten album on the Billboard charts in America. However, there's almost nowhere to go but down after the JLP success, and that's what happened. She basically faded into the background. When you're one of the most well-known celebrities in the world for a period of time, and then you start sliding back down the mountain, people's minds tend to move on a bit. Out of sight, out of mind... that old chestnut. When people aren't thinking about Alanis as much, the fact that she reached the age of 40 can, and will, catch people by surprise. It helps that she has almost looked younger in recent years than she did when JLP first came out.
