The original Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon was released in 2001 and the military tactical shooter game is based in Russia where there has been civil unrest and heightened tension with neighbouring Georgia. Although the US has deployed Ghosts in this fictional conflict, it is is set in April 2008 - just four months before the Russo-Georgian War began when the Russians deployed troops into South Ossetia.
