8. Apple Codenamed The iPhone "M68" And The iPod "Dulcimer" During Their Production Stages
In the electronics industry, every potential innovation must be hidden and protected during the development stage so that rival companies do not become aware of what is being created. In order to keep two particular innovations secret during their production stage, Apple codenamed the iPod the "Dulcimer" and the iPhone "M68" so that even people within their own company did not know what exactly was being developed. This ensured that word did not spread of the iPod and iPhone before Apple wanted it to - and therefore their innovations were unique when they were first released.
