20 Problems Only People From Derby Will Understand

6. Having The Worst Christmas Tree In The Country

There was a time when Derby's Christmas tree was like any other Christmas tree in a small city in the UK - it was nothing to write home about but kind of did the job. A decent sized tree in the market place (in the vicinity of the giant urinal water feature) was standard fare each festive season. That is, until Christmas 2014. The image above captures perfectly the "Why did they even bother?" nature of Derby's latest Christmas tree, as ignominious a tree as any city could possibly hope for which led one local to say, "They might as well have draped a load of paperclips over a bunch of nettles." Sure enough, this tree featured in several online lists of "Worst Christmas Tree In Britain" so you'll have to wait and see if it makes a return at the end of this year.
