20 Surprising Facts That May Change Your Mind About Evil Dictators
4. Khrushchev Gave JFK's Daughter The Puppy Of The First-Ever Dogs In Space
Pushok and Strelka were the first-ever dogs sent to space by the Soviets and they produced a daughter called Pushinka ("bit of fluff") - who just so happened to end up in the White House with the Kennedy family. Bizarrely, during a time of political brinkmanship between the USA and the USSR at the very height of the Cold War in 1961, Khrushchev attempted to ease tensions by presenting the dog to President John F. Kennedy while on a visit to the States. Caroline Kennedy later revealed that the dog "bit everyone" and that the family were eventually able to offload it to a White House gardener. Did Khrushchev possibly have the dog trained as a KGB agent before giving the gift to JFK? Now that is a question we shall probably never find the answer to.
