9. A Georgian National Attempted To Blow Bush Up While He Was President
The most-publicised known assassination attempt of George W Bush while he was in office was made by Georgian national Vladimir Arutyunian in May 2005. While Bush was making a speech at Freedom Square in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi alongside the nation's president (Mikheil Saakashvili), Arutyunian threw a live hand grenade towards the podium. The grenade hit a girl about 20metres from the podium but failed to detonate and Arutyunian was arrested and convicted with a life sentence in January 2006 for an assassination attempt.
