2. Engraved On Churchill's Gravestones Are The Words: "I Am Ready To Meet My Maker. Whether My Maker Is Prepared For The Great Ordeal Of Meeting Me Is Another Matter"
On his 75th birthday, Churchill - when asked by a reporter if he was afraid of dying - famously uttered the words:
"I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter."
This iconic phrase was then immortalised on the epitaph on his gravestone at St Martin's Church in Bladon, Oxfordshire, once he died of a stroke at the age of 90 on January 24, 1965.
