In The Religion of God, a book written by spiritual leader Riaz Ahmed Gohar Shahi, Shahi claims that a comet will collide with earth bringing with it the end of the world. In the same text however he also claims that “In order to intimidate… God plans destruction on a small scale.”

Regardless of the destructive scale, the mathematical probability of Shahi’s 2026 doomsday claim falls somewhere around 300,000:1 so though mathematically possible, it’s unlikely that a comet will bring destruction to our planet in that particular year.

Should we be worried? It seems unlikely that a comet in the year 2026 will be the end of mankind. However, recent research has found that it was likely a comet -and not an asteroid- that finished off the dinosaurs some 65 million years ago. So, there is precedent on this very planet showcasing the deadly impact a comet collision can cause.
