Dark skies are needed to spot the Andromeda galaxy. It will look very similar to a star and you might even be able to make out a hazy cloud surrounding it. The Andromeda galaxy is the most distant object visible from earth with the naked eye. Its so far away that the light from it reaching us is about 2.5 million years old! Andromeda isnt just the most distant object that can be seen with the naked eye, its also the most massive. It contains roughly twice as many stars as the Milky Way! With there being so many stars in Andromeda whos to say theres not some sort of intelligent life looking back at our galaxy? Of course, if there was an intelligent being looking at our galaxy from within Andromeda theyd be seeing it as it was 2.5 million years ago.
