7 Least Explored Places On Earth

4. The Sentinelese - Hostile Guardians

The Sentinelese are another uncontacted tribe, but the difference is that it's not from lack of trying. Indigenous to Sentinel Island in the Bay of Bengal, the Sentinelese are extremely hostile to any outsiders who try to make contact. Any approach to the island will earn you a flurry of spears and arrows that are definitely not just warning shots. In 1880, a British expedition arrived on the island to try to make "friendly contact". They did this by kidnapping some of the islanders (because Britain isn't historically all that great at making friends), plying them with gifts and then sending them back to the island. Unfortunately, two of the hostages died of exposure to diseases their immune system couldn't cope with, and the rest disappeared back onto the island with their gifts, never to be seen again. They were still just as hostile. A few more contact expeditions have been launched, only to end disastrously, including the killing of two fishermen whose boat drifted into their waters. Official attempts to contact the Sentinelese were ended in 1996. From what we can gather, they're a traditional hunter gatherer community and they appear to have survived the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami realitively iunscathed. Thier language remains untranslated and their culture a mystery.
