Elizabeth Bathory was nicknamed The Blood Countess because of her penchant for bathing in the blood of young girls. Born 100 years after Vlad the Impaler, Elizabeth is a great niece of the bloodthirsty voivode. Initially, Bathory murdered servant girls, but later moved on to daughters of the gentry that were sent to her castle to learn etiquette. Seems like a really poor way to get the point across. Allegations against Bathory include mutilation, severe beatings and biting the bodies. What was wrong with these people? When discovered, Bathory was exiled to achtice Castle and luckily for everyone around her, locked in solitary confinement. Assuredly, being confined to a small set of bricked-in rooms impacted not only her looks, but also her ability to go all Old Country Buffet on young girls. It's difficult to know how accurate depictions of her crimes are, as some stories have been embellished to attract tourists and sell books. Nonetheless, it is interesting that two members of the same family would be related to vampiric folklore.
