8 Theories About Reality That Make You Question Everything

2. Higher Dimensional Beings

Physicists are always changing their minds as to how many dimensions there are. At last count, we could be up to about 10.

The idea of higher dimensional beings (outside the realms of ghost hunters and Ufologists) is another offering in the attempt to solve the Fermi Paradox (where are all the aliens, remember?), by basically hypothesising that they're all around us, but we can't see them.

We know that we can exist in either two or three dimensions, depending on how existential you're feeling that day, but who's to say that there aren't civilisations, or at least consciousnesses, inhabiting the other dimensions.

Imagine that you are looking down on a two-dimensional world (much like Flatland). You are looking down on them from above, but to a two-dimensional being, there's no such thing as "above" and so they would never be able to see you.

Now, scale that up to four (or whichever) dimensions. There could well be someone observing you from an angle just sideways of your reality and you would never know that they were there.

If the universe does turn out to be a hologram, it could well be that we're the one's living in two-dimensional flatland, and these multi-dimensional entities are just your run-of-the-mill 3D beings.
