8 Ways Climate Change Isn't Messing Around

6. Rising Sea Levels

Yeah yeah, we've heard about his one so many times that it's just white noise by now.

So, the sea levels rise, some of the coastal cities go under, we all move further inland and some of us get a brand new sea view from our bedroom window.

Fine, if you live on a gurt big land mass like the Americas, but what about the countries that are all about the coastline? The rising sea levels would mean that we could have to evacuate entire island nations like the Philippines and Tuvalu within the century.

Even the larger countries aren't safe as we certainly do like to be beside the seaside, with 40% of the world's population currently living within 100km of the coast, many of which live in major, extremely low lying cities.

Rising sea levels don't just mean that you've got a shiny new coastline either, it contaminates the freshwater, seeps into the soil and can turn arable land into a barren salt marsh, stunting and killing crops.

You know how Odysseus tried to convince everyone that he was stark raving mad by salting his own farmland? Well now we're all Odysseus.
