9 Animals With Creepy As F*** Horror Movie Powers

7. The Shapeshifting Octopus

Shapeshifting is creepy as hell and, far from being the preserve of demons and Nymphadora Tonks, there are plenty in the animal kingdom who have gotten the hang of it too.

The mimic octopus is one such critter. This little guy can change the shape, texture and colour of its body and skin to either blend in with the environment or imitate other creatures. It will often take on the form of a more dangerous creature, such as a jellyfish or lionfish, in order to keep predators away. This is very impressive, but it's nowhere near as gross as the shapeshifting tactics of the sea cucumber.

The sea cucumber, whilst lacking in the department of mimicry, goes for a distinctly more Terminator vibe, and will liquefy itself to fit through narrow cracks and escape threats. Perhaps this is to be expected, as another defence mechanism of the sea cucumber is to throw its internal organs at predators. That's enough to put anyone off their dinner.
