9 Diseases That Are The Stuff Of Horror Movies

2. Kuru Disease

Is a type of neurological disorder that causes unsteadiness, trouble with speech, tremors, muscles loss and frequent, uncontrollable outbursts of laughter for no apparent reason and eventually death. Oh, and did I mention that it's caused by eating human brains? It spread like wildfire through the Fore tribe of Papua New Guinea who were well known for their penchant for dining on the brains (and other bits) of their dead relatives in a cannibalistic funerary practice. The disease causes prion in humans, which is a particularly nasty condition in which your brain and parts of your nervous system essentially turn into a spongey, holey mush called transmissible spongiform encephalopathy, which is science speak for "ewww". So, we can all learn something from this. Mainly that it's a bad idea to tuck into Grandma's brain after she's done using it.
