Alice In Wonderland syndrome gets its name from the extreme perceived size distortion experienced by patients, just as Alice experienced after eating and drinking certain substances in Wonderland. The hallucinations can involved vision "zooming in" on subjects, writing appearing to leap off the page, objects becoming so massive as to take up the entire field of vision, and a "rushing" sensation.
It is thought to have something to do with the over-stimulation of the parts of the brain that deals with colours, textures, size and shape.
