9 Times The Hitchhikers’ Guide To The Galaxy Accurately Predicted The Future

7. Voice Command

So, just for the full hat-trick with regards to computer interfacing, voice command also features heavily in Hitchhiker's Guide. The most notable instance of this is in  the mildly fraught conversations held with the Heart of Gold's chipper shipboard computer, Eddie. Eddie controls the entire ship and is programmed with a cheerful and sunny disposition (plus a number of back up personalities, including a nagging mother programme).

All one has to do to interact with Eddie is to loudly address the air with "Eddie?" or "computer?" and he will whirr in to action, recording everything he says on ticker tape. Ring any bells? It is a well documented fact that nobody in the history of the planet has yet been able to say the words "Hey, Siri", "Okay, Google" or "Xbox, on" without imitating those horribly chirpy voices on the adverts.

Now if only we could get Siri to even work out our personality problems to ten decimal places...
