Alton Towers: Ranking The Rollercoasters From Worst To Best

5. Oblivion

Since 1998 when it opened, having originally been the proud owner of the 'world's first vertical drop' tag, Oblivion has become one of those rides that make you ponder 'once you've been on it once, do you bother going on again?' Don't get me wrong, the drop on this Bolliger and Mabillard offering is still exciting, but it's essentially all Oblivion is about - the rest of this very short ride is simply focused on slowing the carriage down and returning it to the platform. It does reach a top speed of 68 miles per hour, which officially makes it the third fastest rollercoaster in England behind Thorpe Park's 'Stealth' and Blackpool Pleasure Beach's 'Pepsi Max Big One', but these days it's looking and feeling very dated and doesn't have close to the impact that it had back in the day.
