Before Stephen King sat down to pen his 51st novel he was on the fence as to what project he wanted to pursue. It was between a sequel to the Shining he had been thinking about called Dr. Sleep and another Dark Tower novel named The Wind and the Keyhole. He decided to put it to a vote and let the fans decide. Dr. Sleep won by a close margin of forty-nine votes. So Stephen sat down to make a return to a novel that scared us all when it was first published and continues to scare us now. According to him, Dr. Sleep marks his return to the real chilling stuff. While making a guest appearance on The View, King was asked by Whoopi Goldberg why after all these years was he deciding to write a sequel to one story in his library of works. The question brought a smile to his face as King replied that out of all his stories, Danny was the character people consistently came up to ask about. Everyone wants to know what happened to Danny Torrance and now they are going to get their chance. Dr. Sleep was released last month on the 24th of September. The story follows an older, worse for the wear Dan Torrance in his forties and a young girl named Abra as they battle a group of travelers called the True Knot that feed off the physic residue they call steam that is released from children who shine when they are tortured to death.
