Every Major Alton Towers Ride Ranked Worst To Best

1. The Smiler

Though it's history is still somewhat on the road to recovery, there's no denying how brilliant of a ride The Smiler is. One of the most expensive and ambitious projects ever undertaken for a roller coaster, The Smiler cost £18 million to build and was one of the first rides to ever have names for each and every part of the journey the riders would go through. Not only was this going to be a record-breaking ride, but it was going to be one that felt truly alive.

The image of the ride's unnerving smile was plastered everywhere across the UK, the records were smashed, and the facility finally opened for business in 2013. Breaking the world record for the most amount of inversions at 14, The Smiler is an absolute mishmash of dive loops, corkscrews and rolls, as well as an assortment of Smiling features designed to creep riders out even more.

Everything from the wacky, if undeniably sinister, Smiler theme, to the fact that ride that leaves anyone riding at a loss over what is the right way up after a while has become iconic. Quite simply, no other ride in the country has even come close to establishing the legacy of The Smiler since its opening.
