Every Major Alton Towers Ride Ranked Worst To Best

2. Oblivion

Alton Towers has always been the place to go for pushing the boundaries on what is possible in the pursuit for thrills, but Oblivion really was something else when it was first opened back in 1998 after an investment by the park of £12 million.

Located in what is now the 'X Sector' of the park, Oblivion actually has the honour of calling itself the fastest ride in the park at 68mph and in the top three fastest roller coasters in the entire country. After scaling up a mountain and being told of the effects riding Oblivion can have on people, riders are strapped into the ride and begin to be hauled up 60 feet.

Once up there, they will come face-to-face with Oblivion's infamous drop. Held for up to five seconds vertically suspended over a giant hole in the ground, the ride's 87.5 degree drop is branded as being the world's very first vertical drop roller coaster and offers one of the most terrifying, if unique, experiences anywhere in the country.

The ride's official slogan of 'Don't Look Down!' really couldn't be more accurate.
