Joe Rogan Experience: 10 Early Gem Podcasts You Might Have Missed
6. Anthony Bourdain #138
Anthony Bourdain was one of the most influential TV hosts in the culinary world and was close friends with Joe before his tragic passing in 2018. Bourdain's untimely death clearly affected Joe, as evidenced by his heartfelt reminiscing about his late friend with Parts Unknown producer Morgan Fallon on the JRE.
What is less known, is that Bourdain actually appeared on the podcast while it was still in its embryonic stages back in 2011. The pair have a great conversation that is a must for any fan of Bourdain's work. The only shame is that Joe and Anthony never reconvened to do a second episode together due to their busy work schedules.
Joe was also instrumental in helping Bourdain foster his passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, having reached the rank of blue belt prior to his passing. However, when asked in an AMA on Reddit if he would consider doing a grappling related segment with Rogan on his show in the future Bourdain replied:
No. I'm not rolling with that guy, it hurts. He does not roll light, he goes really really hard. He's a neck cranker, by the way, and he's got bowling balls for arms, no visible neck, and he only rolls with no gi. So as much as I love the guy, I'll do anything with him; shoot animals in the brain, canoe trip, hot tubbing, whatever. But I'm not rolling with the guy.
