Every great leader needs a solid second - a guy who€™s unfailingly loyal, trusts the leader at his word, and is a powerful, physical force to be reckoned with on his own. For Harry, Dean Thomas is that man. In early drafts of the first book, Dean was a more prominent character, which is unsurprising.
