5. 100th Anniversary of the Crossword Puzzle: December 21st 2013

Crosswords are perhaps the best way of wasting time, whether it be whilst waiting for a train or just trying to pass some time in a doctors waiting room they can always entertain for just the right amount of time. Doodles are also great for wasting time, specifically at work, so when the two were combined last year I imagine productivity dropped across the globe. The doodle itself is a massive and very difficult crossword, one that I havent been able to complete. Created by the doodlers and cross word legend Merl Reagle, the puzzle features 78 words to figure out and is even presented in a newspaper style. Cryptic clues such as Absolutely! and Enticed are all you have to go on, which results in an incredibly difficult experience for those of us who have poor general knowledge. The doodle is one of the more complex on the list, but it managed to keep the simplicity of the crossword intact. Sure it may be difficult, but that is half of the fun.
