If you asked Sam Allardyce, he'd probably say that every single one of his signings at Newcastle were spot on, and that he was forced to endure limits on his budget and targets that stopped the team becoming Champions League contenders. The truth, however, is that the former Bolton boss played terrible football with the available talents, and mostly supplemented them with inferior players who weren't good enough to lace the boots of even the most mediocre Newcastle players in more successful sides. But in Jose Enrique, the now West Ham boss unearthed a gem: he might have taken some time to bed in, but Enrique was one of Newcastle's stand out talents during the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons, until he decided he was too big for the club. Still, a good signing despite how it ended.
