10 Managers That Turned NUFC Down

1. Sir Alex Ferguson

Probably Ferguson's reaction when Sir John Hall et all called him up and asked if he was interested in the St James' Park hot seat. Newcastle went for Fergie after Kevin Keegan departed Tyneside in 1997. Realistically, at the time, Newcastle were the only other English team the Scotsman would leave for. Former Newcastle Chairman Freddy Shepherd revealed the following to TalkSport in 2011: €œWe went for Sir Alex Ferguson, at the time he was negotiating a new contract at Man United and we spoke to Fergie€™s advisors but it didn€™t come off. €œHis advisors encouraged us to wait a bit longer and further down the line it just died a death. It would have been a great signing after Keegan, he€™s always said that the only other club he€™d come to is Newcastle. It was recorded at the time, if he ever had to move to. That was years ago." Well, as they say, God loves a trier. For all the latest NUFC News, Views and Transfers make sure to follow WhatCultureNUFC on Twitter and Facebook.
