10 Newcastle Players Who Became Legends In One Moment

1. "And Now Here They Are Looking For Number Five With Philippe Alberrrrrttttt...."

Philippe Albert has a good claim to being the best foreign recruit to Kevin Keegan's Entertainers team, and it was his eye for an attack - coupled with an under-rated defensive ability that gets forgotten because of the team's cavalier style - that formed the foundation for that side's successes. Not only was he one of the most classy defenders Newcastle fans have ever seen in the Premier League (not that that's too difficult an issue), he also had an eye for a screamer, and if there's a single moment that cemented him as one of the greatest Newcastle cult heroes it was his most impressive goal. Hilariously, Albert doesn't even class the fifth goal in the infamous, iconic destruction of Sir Alex Ferguson's Man United as the best he has ever scored, but for Newcastle fans, it will inevitably crop up in any top ten goals list. And the best thing about it; the thing that made Albert a bona-fide hero was that it typified everything great about Kevin Keegan's manifesto. As that ball arched beautifully through the air, embarrassing Peter Schmeichel in the United net, you still have to shake yourself even now to remember that this man - the architect of this stunning goal - was a centre-half. Imagine Mike Williamson doing that. Which other great heroic moments deserve to be included on this list? Share your thoughts below in the comments thread.
