10 Newcastle Players Who Became Legends In One Moment

10. Tino's Debut

Some might suggest that the moment Tino wrote his name into Newcastle United history was that incredible performance against Barcelona - master-minded surprisingly by Keith Gillespie and John Barnes (nobody mentions that, do they?) - but the Columbian had already twisted and turned his way into the Geordie crowd's affections well before that famous night. Despite the fact that people blame Tino for the wheels coming off in the title charge at the end of 1995/96 - they're wrong, it was David Batty who did that - he will be remembered fondly for the stories that happened away from the pitch as well as for the samba style football he played when he was at his best. And the love affair began straight away: not only did he turn up to Newcastle wearing a giant furry coat, he also came on for a spectacular debut against Middlesbrough and embarrassed their defence. Even better, he'd also not been prepared to play and had had a glass of wine for his lunch - so there's a good chance he was a little bit furry himself. And yet the debut was incredible, and he became a legend immediately.
