10 Newcastle Players Who Really Weren't Worth The Hassle

10. Xisco

There isn't much of a legacy left in the Spaniard's wake from his time on Tyneside, other than the fact that he was the catalyst for the resignation of a much-loved Toon boss, sparking a public outcry amongst the Geordie faithful. Within mere days of his arrival, there was a revolt against the 'Cockney Mafia' - owner Mike Ashley's entourage - who had sanctioned several signings without manager Kevin Keegan's jurisdiction. The U21 Spanish international, a £5 million signing from Deportivo la Coruna, obviously felt a discernible lack of welcome upon his arrival, and despite a debut goal, he barely played for the side for the remainder of his five-year spell at the club. Immediate attempts to offload Xisco were made in January 2009, but they were subsequently blocked by FIFA as they would have violated the rule outlawing a player from representing three sides in one season. Two loan spells in Spain, and eight goalless first-team appearances later, and the boy who unwittingly sparked a wave of mass riots in the summer of 2008 was released.
