The Rumour Because fans are complaining about the nature of pay day lenders and the club's moral obligation to the community, Newcastle will drop Wonga as a sponsor, and go with a more wholesome brand like a beer maker or something. The Truth Nope. Newcastle are locked in to that sponsorship deal, and no amount of moral outrage is going to make them drop it: we've always been linked with a morally questionable advertiser (is it really that different to have kids advertising booze on their tops?) and Newcastle pre-empted the issue by tying Wonga to the club's community programme. They effectively put the sponsors on community service before they'd even been accused of anything untoward. If Wonga leave the shirts, it will be because the deal is up, or because the new chief of the company decides it's too damaging to them to continue. Newcastle will have no such concerns.
