10 Newcastle United Rumours That Need To Die Immediately
5. Kevin Keegan Will Be Manager Again (As Soon As Ashley Leaves)
The Rumour The minute Mike Ashley sells the club, Kevin Keegan will do what Jesus couldn't and return for a third time to his spiritual home, to lead the Magpies on to European glory. The Truth Would he really be that much of a good idea? Keegan has walked out on Newcastle more than twice (he did it a few times in his first period at the club in a huff), but more importantly he's somewhat out of touch with how football now works. In the olden, golden days, tactics didn't matter so much because Keegan could simply blow teams away through sheer force of attacking, but now everyone plays with one striker (mostly), and defensive midfielders protect the defence. Unless you're Chelsea and you have all the money in the world and 19 attacking midfielders in the squad, it's just not that possible to play attacking football without a strong enough defence. And you have to question which incoming owner would ever hire Keegan too. He's shown he desires more power than the board, he's taken the club to court (wholly justified of course) and he has the power to turn the entire fan-base against the owner. In other words, he's an owner's worst nightmare.
