10 Players Who Didn't Fulfil Their Potential At Arsenal

1. Jack Wilshere

A product of Arsenal's academy who has also been unfortunate with injury since reaching the senior setup, Jack Wilshere may be a name Gunners fans are surprised to see on this list. Unfortunately this "future Arsenal captain" is still some way short of showing the Emirates faithful of just what he's capable of. To put him in the same category as failures like Bendtner or Squillaci may be a tad harsh, and he shouldn't be judged on the same plain as these. Given his enormous talent and fierce determination, however, Wilshere simply has not yet lived up to the potential that he has occasionally shown Arsenal fans that he has. Injuries have obviously not helped his development, but even after managing two fuller seasons in the last two years he is still yet to establish himself as a crucial cog in the Gunners' midfield. Despite glimpses that he was becoming a key player in 2012, Wilshere has slipped back somewhat into a supporting role. He has moved backwards whereas teammate Aaron Ramsey has exceled in the last two years. His poor discipline have regularly been criticised for his limits, but it is also true that some of his best games have come when he is most fired up. It's his temperament that is currently holding him back and which has stunted his progress thus far. If this can be honed then there is no doubt Wilshere will quickly start to show just why he has been tipped as a future captain. He may be on this list for now, but fortunately he has adequate time left to turn this around. So there you have it; ten Arsenal players who's potential and promise went unfulfilled at the club. Would you defend anyone listed here? Or perhaps you would add someone to this list? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
