10 Players Newcastle Should Never Have Sold In The Premier League Era

8. Nolberto Solano

It's hard to believe that Solano actually left Newcastle during the mid-noughties to join Aston Villa for 18 months given how synonymous he became with the club. Signed by Dalglish in 1998 - one of the few tangible positives to emerge from an otherwise awful recruitment strategy - Solano was the first Peruvian ever to play in England and such was the intrigue surrounding his arrival that a Magpies reserve match had to delay its kick-off to accommodate an irregular number of spectators desperate to see their new South American signing in action. He justified the decision with a goal. A keen player of the trumpet - he told FourFourTwo that one night called an unamused Sir Bobby and played down the phone to him - he remains to this day one of the best right wingers to pull on a black and white shirt. Unforgettable is how we'd like to describe Nobby, while his wand of a right peg is sorely missed, even today.
