In 2004, Newcastle once more found themselves struggling with yet another striker crisis, and Sir Bobby Robson turned to Leeds United and a North East native as the unlikely solution. Michael Bridges had only scored 19 goals for the Yorkshire side in almost 5 years (all in one season) and injuries had wrecked most of his time with the Whites. Even so, after four years of injuries (in which he managed just 10 appearances), Robson saw something in his potential to sign him up for 3 months. The result - of just eight appearances, with one start - was predictable, and the lack of goals meant the former Sunderland player was no more than a disappointing foot-note in Sir Bobby's Newcastle record. Sadly, he was then released by Leeds, and bounced from club to club before ending his career with Newcastle Jets in Australia. Another talent ruined by injury.
