10 Players You Totally Forgot Played For Newcastle United

8. Steve Guppy

Another Keegan special, Guppy had impressed over 5 years and 200 appearances for Wycombe Wanderers, helping them into the Football League before Keegan paid £150,000 to bring him to Newcastle the same month he spent £425k on Jason Drysdale. The future Leicester and England (remember when anyone with a left-foot could play for our national team?!) star made just one appearance for the Magpies, coming off the bench in the League Cup. He was then sold on to Port Vale at a profit (for £225k) despite leaving no lasting memory at all at Newcastle and was able to restart his career there before joining Leicester and coming back to the Premier League. There's every chance Guppy could have been a good first-team option for Newcastle, but sadly, we'll never know.
