10 Players You Totally Forgot Played For Newcastle United

9. Lamine Diatta

Kevin Keegan's track record of signing players was mostly great: he turned Andy Cole into a big money striker, made questions over spending £1.5m on Peter Beardsley at age 32 look ridiculous and master-minded the most important Newcastle signing in history in the shape of Alan Shearer. He also signed Paul Kitson, so it wasn't exactly an unblemished slate. That makes the fact that he signed 32-year-old French full-back Lamine Diatta a little easier to take: as mistakes go it wasn't exactly spectacular, as he was given a short-term deal, but he was an entirely nondescript player. Having played just twice for the Magpies as a substitute, he was released just over two months after his signing was confirmed.
