10 Players You Totally Forgot Played For Newcastle United

4. Oguchi Onyewu

In another universe, American centre-back Oguchi Onyewu might well have been a major player in the Champions League, and another who Newcastle wrongly chose not to sign after an uninspiring loan. Had it not been for a reckless challenge by Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Milan and an unfortunate injury with the USA, he really could have made a name for himself in Italy, but ultimately he ended his latest contract at Sheff Wed, having been released after not making an appearance at WPR last year. In 2007, the highly-rated player - acknowledged as his country's best emerging talent - snubbed transfer interest from around Europe to join Newcastle on loan. Unfortunately for him, he was paired with Titus Bramble, and their partnership proved comical, with the blame unfairly aimed at the American and not his slap-stick partner. That meant he was dropped and completely cast off by Sam Allardyce, as the club decided not to sign him permanently. Ultimately, he is now most remembered for signing a contract at Milan and refusing to be paid after sitting a whole year out injured.
