10 Players You Totally Forgot Played For Newcastle United

5. Sol Campbell

Incredibly, Sol Campbell turned down a one year contract to stay at Arsenal (where he'd joined after the comical disaster of his time at Notts County) to join Chris Hughton's newly promoted Newcastle side in 2010. He was identified and signed to add the necessary experience to bolster the centre-back options of Coloccini, Taylor and Williamson, but had apparently forgotten who he was or how high a level he'd played the minute he pulled on a Newcastle top. The former England man looked an entirely different player to the one who had cameoed at Arsenal the season before, and unfortunately, the change wasn't for the better. He made just 8 appearances for the club in the return to the Premier League and found himself released halfway through his 2 year deal. He was just the latest in a line of poor and deeply unmemorable defenders signed by Hughton - after Fitz Hall and Zurab Khizanishvili had signed on loan in the Championship season.
