4. The Whole "Yid" Chant Issue
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tb_SP5VYX24 Spurs fans must be some of the only fans in the world who aren't allowed to use a term that they mean affectionately because it might offend. The word "Yid" has been used as a derogatory term against Jews throughout history and, due to Spurs classically having a large Jewish fan base, opposition fans have used it in an equally derogatory manner against them. As a result, and in direct response to the jibes, Spurs fans embraced the term and began using it in their own chants ("Yid army", ", he's a Yido!" etc), but it got them in to trouble and the F.A. threatened action against the club and its fans if the chants continued. Spurs fans defiantly ignored the warnings and it would seem that the matter has been dropped - but Spurs remain unique in the sense that, by turning an insult in to an endearment, they almost got themselves in trouble with their own affectionate chanting.
