10. McClaren Wasn't The Right Choice
Steve McClaren's appointment this Summer was met with a unenthusiastic shrug and hollow stare by most. It was hard to get excited about a manager who had seemingly failed to even get his well-backed Derby side into the Championship playoffs and who had flopped at the last fives sides he had been at. Mike Ashley's lethargic decision to appoint McClaren only escaped fan backlash because most supporters were so relieved that John Carver was no longer in charge. The change represented a new era but while everyone celebrated the fresh start most failed to realise that the Newcastle chairman had appointed a man who wasn't anywhere good enough to take charge at St James' Park.
